We have excellent news everyone, early this morning we received the official Government Gazette from the Department of Education and Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, announcing the extension of the pre-2009 Qualifications and Skills Programmes.
Some of the CATHSSETA and SETA unit standards skills programmes that were scheduled to expire on June 30, 2024, have been extended for enrolment, for one year, until 2025 and if necessary, provisions have been made to extend this further to 2026. The Nature Site Guide skills programmes have been included in this extension.
What does this mean? This means that all current learners and potential new learners will be able to enrol for, study and complete some historic skills programmes ensuring the continued skills learning and development. This is not exclusive to guiding, tourism and hospitality, but includes a total of 374 skills programmes that currently sit within CATHSSETA.
The reason for this extension is that the development of the new qualifications within the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) have not been completed and there cannot be a situation where the skills programmes expire leaving thousands without a means to pursue their career training and development.
We are both happy and relieved to receive and share this news with you all!
